Don and Era Farnsworth are a collaborative team who also direct the renowned Magnolia Editions in Oakland, CA. They’ve worked with a wide range of artists from Chuck Close to Kiki Smith, using Magnolia's unique blend of technology and tradition to help bring their visions to life.

The pair also collaborate to make intensive, richly multi-layered prints and tapestries that creatively combine imagery from science, religion, mythology and the natural world. In an ongoing series of tree portraits, they present a single arboreal subject overlaid with foliate and calligraphic elements. Don and Era generate their imagery using a combination of photography, state-of-the-art archival pigment printing, painting, and drawing; several of their trees have also been translated into large-scale, editioned Jacquard tapestries. The subjects of the Farnsworths' portraits are actual trees from all over the world: from the only pine left standing in a grove of more than 70,000 after the 2011 tsunami in Japan, to orange trees in Seville planted centuries ago by Andalusian caliphs and emirs to provide a place of fragrant beauty for all to enjoy.
